Regular Meeting

 

The Poland Township of Trustees held their regular meeting on September 14, 2016 at the Poland Township Government Center located at 3339 Dobbins Road, Poland Ohio.

Miss Cami Lattanzio leads in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Scharville calls roll call. Ungaro, Lidle and Wollet are present.

Scharville makes a motion to approve minutes for special meeting on September 2nd 2016.  Seconded by Lidle.  Voting yes- Ungaro, Lidle and Wollet.

Scharville makes a motion to approve authorizing payments for all outstanding bills for the township. Seconded by Lidle. Voting yes- Ungaro, Lidle and Wollet.

Ungaro introduces Poland Schools Superintendent David Janofa and Mary Partridge from Columbia Gas, to accept 10,000 private donation for SRO Program.

Ungaro recognizes Poland Community Junior Girls Softball League for their hard work. Coach Lattanzio is present to give certificates to each of the girls involved and to take a picture.

Ungaro gives recognition to the Poland Rotary Tournament Boys Junior Baseball League.  Coach Shurilla, Coach Yaskulka and Coach Bacon are present to give each of the boys a certificate.  

Scharville gives recognition to Sergeant Dan Aracich.  Chief Goodin is present to award a certificate for Aracich’s quick action in being a first responder for a 33 year old male on July 29th, 2016 and revived the individual and is alive today due to Sergeant Dan Aracich.

Ungaro announces Halloween hours will be on Monday October 31, 2016 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Wollet presents a new project for CASTLO to the township and the trustees. This projects acts to clean up the civic boards in cities. The CASTLO signs for Poland could be used as a welcoming sign for the community.  Meeting with CASTLO later this month, CASTLO agreed to pay for half of the total cost of the signs which is $1,500.00.

Scharville briefly discusses Resolution #16-17 Rate Budget Commission.  Ungaro moves to motion Resolution #16-17, Seconded by Lidle. Voting yes- Ungaro, Lidle and Wollet.

Scharville makes a motion for Resolution #16-18 to carry Nuisance Notice forward for 4595 Center Road. Seconded by Lidle. Voting yes- Ungaro, Lidle and Wollet

Scharville makes a motion to approve payment for flu shots to the Mahoning County Board of Health for Twp. Employees.  Seconded by Ungaro. Voting yes- Ungaro, Lidle and Wollet.

 

Park Committee:

Mike Heher is not present; Mr. Ken Filicky gives monthly report.               

Recycling Dept:

Scharville gives monthly report for recycling department.

Zoning Dept:

Bob Monus is present to give July and August monthly report.  For the month of July 2016, total Valuation $430,923.00 and total fees collected of $3,168.00.  For the month of August 2016, total Valuation $830,839.00 and total fees collected of $6,282.00.

Road Dept:

Tom Monus is present to give monthly report.  Street safety signs are slowly being replaced and roads being patched up.

Police Dept:

Chief Goodin is present to give monthly report.  Chief Goodin discusses funding for project for Poland’s fallen officers.  This project involves raising money for a plaque for officers to recognize their services. Trustees agree to project, agree to revisit this presentation around spring 2017.

Public comment:                       

Kathy Rogers of 240 Edna Street, voices concerns of prospective landlords purchasing homes in the village and renting them.

Mike Carney of 3156 Chardonnay Lane thinks lighting for 170 sidewalks would be great.  Carney inquires if an expansion as well as more lighting is in motion for Tuscany or around those areas in town.

Ungaro motions to enter into executive session at 7:08 p.m. for reason of personnel matters.

Ungaro makes a motion to exit executive session at 7:31 p.m.  Seconded by Lidle. Voting yes- Ungaro, Lidle and Wollet.

Ungaro makes a motion to accept letter of resignation of Patrolman Frank DeMain, effective October 4, 2016.  Seconded by Lidle with regrets. Voting yes - Ungaro, Lidle and Wollet.

Ungaro makes a motion to adjourn at 7:32.  Seconded by Lidle.   Voting yes- Ungaro, Lidle and Wollet.
